What you will be doing

You will be part of the global process technology and engineering team within the business unit rechargeable battery materials! As Senior Manager PDE you will be responsible for the management of a portfolio of global process driven projects in the field of battery cathode materials, ranging from early R&D to Full industrialization (R&D, process engineering and upscaling). You will also be responsible for the daily management of a team (process R&D experts + Process engineers). As you will be part of a global team, you will intensively collaborate with colleagues at different locations (Poland, Korea, China).


  • Identifying, defining and setting up of new process R&D and industrialization projects;
  • Management of R&D projects on new process technologies;
  • Management of optimization projects on existing process technologies;
  • Identifying and initiation of projects with the goal to optimize (a part of) the Flow sheet;
  • Technology scouting;
  • Lead the upscaling of the process towards Mass Production;
  • Ensure high scientific level and accurate R&D methodology within the different R&D projects and during upscaling;
  • Deliver required process documentation towards process engineering and CAPEX;
  • Generate documentation supporting the growth of the RBM process knowledge;
  • Active participation and delivery of the required documentation to the APQP gate reviews.
  • Make the link between the process and product R&D and the relevant CAPEX projects and ensure that new process technologies are industrially viable;
  • Translation of process requirements (R&D) into detailed process documentation for the CAPEX projects;
  • Process engineering support to the CAPEX project including organization and discussions with equipment suppliers and the selection of the best equipment;
  • Main contact point and end-responsible for all process related questions from the CAPEX team;
  • Assist Engineering Project team and Operation team during commissioning;
  • Team Coaching & Management :
    • Lead a global team of (senior) process engineers in all aspects (HR, project allocation, resource planning, training, …);
    • Development of the people in the team, both from a scientific and management side;
    • Identifying resource needs and taking appropriate actions to adjust the team organization.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a flexible colleague with:


  • PhD degree in chemistry, physics, material science, engineering, … or equivalent by relevant work experience;
  • at least 5 years of (process) experience in within the domain of R&D project management, process technology development and/or process engineering;
  • Knowledge and experience in inorganic material synthesis and manufacturing methods (wet chemical) 
  • Proven experience in project management (R&D and industrialization projects);
  • Experience with process documentation of process industrialization projects: (PFD, P&ID, mass balance, process description, cost calculations…)
  • proficient knowledge of basic PC tools as Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills in English;
  • Strong organizing skills;
  • Decision making skills, perseverant and committed to results; 
  • Good communication skills, open, respectful, convincing;
  • Ability to operate in a matrix structure in contact with different departments;
  • Consistent track record to coach, encourage and empower your team;
  • Strong leadership and people management skills;
  • Problem solving skills: systematic and methodological approach, ability to synthesize;
  • Creativity in generating solutions;


  • Background in powder handling technology;
  • Sound knowledge in process development and engineering from process R&D to industrialization;
  • Knowledge in chemical thermodynamics and kinetics;
  • Knowledge in process safety;
