About Rechargeable Battery Materials (RBM)

We are all on the move. Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials give people autonomy and connectivity. We are a pioneer in battery materials that give added range and performance to electric vehicles. Our materials also ensure longer battery life for portable electronics. To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. Which is where you come in.

What you will be doing

The RBM R&D organization will expand a lot over the next 1 to 3 years! To adapt the changes (new members, new responsibilities, etc.), the Patent Liaison Manager will ensure that workflows for IP creation, technical freedom to operate (FTO) assessment, benchmarking analysis, etc. are implemented within the RBM organization in support to the implementation of the following tasks:

  • Identify and develop new IP around cathode active material, including focus on their manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement sophisticated IP-oriented material characterization methods/tools to support enforceable IP creation and FTO technical assessment of cathode active materials and process to manufacture thereof
  • Develop design of experiments to support IP creation and FTO assessment
  • Coordinate above-provided tasks together with the senior PLM over different competences/programs within the BU

Ultimately the PLM role is about converting technical input from the R&D team to support consolidation of the RBM BU’s legal position (technical FTO, IP creation and enforceability)

You will be based in Olen (BE) and you will report to the Head of Intellectual Property Competence Team.
